In a manner similar to that of Example 1(i), by reaction of 1 g (4.1 mmol) of methyl 3′-hydroxy-2′-methylbiphenyl-4-carboxylate with 2 g (4.5 mmol) of 3,4-bis(benzoyloxymethyl)benzyl bromide and 650 mg (4.7 mmol) of potassium carbonate, the desired product is obtained in the form of a colourless oil (m=2.4 9; Y=97%).
