Procedure
To 100 mL of chloroform is added 24 g (0.2 mol) of thionyl chloride and 27.2 g (0.1 mol) of 1-ethoxy-3-(4-hexylpiperazin-1-yl)-2-propanol. Reflux the reaction and monitor by thin-layer chromatography. Upon completion add saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate until gas evolution ceases. Dry the organic phase over Na2SO4. Filter the drying agent and evaporate the solvent in vacuo to obtain the title compound.
