Procedure
Amine preparation: To a solution of 1-BOC-4-piperidone (1.0 g) in MeOH (10 mL) was added a solution of freshly prepared methylamine in MeOH (1.0 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h and then sodium cyanoborohydride (0.315 g) was added. After stirring for 24 h the reaction mixture was then diluted with DCM, washed with sodium bicarbonate solution, dried (MgSO4) and the solvent removed in vacuo. The residue was purified by flash chromatography to yield 4-methylamino-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (0.85 g).
