Procedure
A mixture of methyl 2-{[6-(2-benzyl-1,3-oxazol-5-yl)-2-naphthyl]oxy}-3-phenylpropanoate (578 mg, 1.25 mmol), prepared in the previous step, and 1 N NaOH (1.87 mL, 1.87 mmol) in 20 mL of THF, 20 mL of methanol and 10 mL of H2O was stirred at room temperature for 16 h (overnight). The reaction was acidified by the addition of 2.0 mL of 1N HCl and then concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the THF and the methanol. The white solid that formed was collected by filtration, rinsed with water and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (144 mg, 26%) as a white solid, mp 78-82° C. Elemental Analysis for C29H23NO4+0.50 H2O Calc'd: C, 75.97; H, 5.28; N, 3.05. Found: C, 75.29; H, 5.02; N, 2.91.
