A mixture of 2-acetylpyrimidine (2.90 g), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (2.48 g) and triethylamine (5.3 ml) in ethanol (40 ml) was stirred at room temperature overnight. The reaction mixture was poured into water, and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic layer was washed with a saturated aqueous ammonium sulfate solution and brine, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to obtain 2-acetylpyrimidine oxime (4.44 g) as colorless powder.
