Procedure
A solution of 5-methoxyindole-3-acetic acid (500 mg, 2.44 mmol) in 4.8 mL of N,N-dimethylformamide was added di-n-propylamine (0.60 mL, 7.2 mmol) and EDCI (1.90 g, 9.6 mmol) at room temperature. After the reaction mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 12 h, the reaction mixture was diluted with diethyl ether, and washed with water and brine, and dried over MgSO4. After filtration, the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to obtain the title compound (360 mg, 51%).
