Ethyl 1-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-iodo-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (38) (847 mg, 2.35 mmol), PdCl2(PPh3)2 (82 mg, 0.12 mmol), copper (I) iodide (22 mg, 0.12 mmol), and THF (50 mL) were added to a pressure tube. Diisopropyl amine (6 mL) and 1-chloro-2-ethynyl-3-fluorobenzene (41) (400 mg, 2.59 mmol) were added to the pressure tube and the reaction was stirred at 50° C. overnight. The reaction was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was purified by flash column chromatography on silica gel (0-30% EtOAc in hexanes) to provide ethyl 2-((2-chloro-6-fluorophenyl)ethynyl)-1-(4-fluorophenyl)-1H-imidazole-5-carboxylate (42).
