Procedure
A mixture of 6-acetyl-7-hydroxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene (2.0 g), allyl bromide (1.7 g), anhydrous potassium carbonate (2.2 g) and N,N-dimethylformamide (50 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 24 hours. The mixture was then poured into ice/water (400 ml) and stirred. The precipitate was filtered off, washed with water and then dried to leave, as an off-white powder, 6-acetyl-7-allyloxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene (2.38 g), mp 62°-63°.
