The product of step (a) (1.4 g) was suspended in water (20 ml) and sodium bicarbonate (356 mg) was added over 10 minutes. When homogeneity had been achieved the mixture was freeze-dried to yield a yellow solid which was shown to be a pure sample of the desired sodium salt (1.4 g; 93%).
