To a stirred solution of (5-methoxy-4-nitropyridin-2-yl)methanol (4 g, 0.021 mol) in DCM (30 mL), was added Dess-Martin Periodinane (18.43 g, 0.043 mol, Spectrochem, India) and reaction was stirred for 3 h at rt. The reaction progress was monitored by TLC (50% EtOAc in petroleum ether). After completion of the reaction, sat'd NaHCO3 (20 mL) was added and the product was extracted with DCM (3×25 mL). The combined organic layers were dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated to give the title compound as a pale yellow solid. 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ ppm 9.95 (s, 1H), 9.02 (s, 1H), 8.36 (s, 1H), 4.19 (s, 3H). MS (ESI, positive ion) m/z: 182.9 (M+H).
