A mixture of the acetaldehyde derivative from Step 2 (3.3 g, 10.18 mmol), hydroxylamine hydrochloride (1.42 g, 20.4 mmol), ethanol (25 mL) and triethylamine (2.06 g, 20.4 mmol) was stirred at room temperature for 30 minutes. The solvent was evaporated away and the residue was partitioned between ethyl acetate and water. The crude product from the organic phase was purified by column chromatography on silica gel using a 1:2 mixture of ethyl acetate:hexane as eluent. The title compound was obtained as a yellow solid, mp: 146°-150° C.
