A mixture of 6-(diphenylmethyl)-8-hydroxy-8-(6-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-5-yl)-2,3,6,8-tetrahydro-7H-[1,4]dioxino[2,3-f]indol-7-one (0.78 g, 1.5 mmol), triethylsilane (1.2 mL) and trifluoroacetic acid (1.2 mL) in dichloromethane (10 mL) was stirred at 0° C. for 1 h and then at ambient temperature for 1 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to afford crude 6-(diphenylmethyl)-8-(6-hydroxy-2,3-dihydro-1-benzofuran-5-yl)-2,3,6,8-tetrahydro-7H-[1,4]dioxino[2,3-f]indol-7-one (100%): MS (ES+) m/z 492.1 (M+1).
