To a stirred suspension of 3-hydroxy-3-(5-hydroxy-3-methyl-1,2-benzisoxazol-6-yl)-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (0.84 g; 2.0 mmol) in triethylsilane (3.0 mL, 18.7 mmol) was added trifluoroacetic acid (15.0 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 26 h, allowed to cool to ambient temperature and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was recrystallized from ethyl acetate/hexanes to afford 3-(5-hydroxy-3-methyl-1,2-benzisoxazol-6-yl)-1-(4-methoxybenzyl)-1,3-dihydro-2H-indol-2-one (0.74 g, 92%): 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3) δ 7.34-6.80 (m, 10H), 5.29 (s, 1H), 4.87 (ABq, 2H), 3.74 (s, 3H), 2.45 (s, 3H); MS (ES+) m/z 400.9 (M+1).
