To a solution of 3-chloro-4-methylphenol (7.5 g) and 2-chloro-4-fluorobenzonitrile (8.14 g) in N,N-dimethylacetamide (23 ml) was added potassium carbonate (8.55 g). The mixture was stirred for 5 hours at 120° C. The mixture was poured into ice water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was washed with water, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to dryness to give the title compound (14.42 g) as a colorless solid.
