A solution of 0.9 M 4-chlorophenyl magnesium bromide in THF/toluene (9.15 ml, 8.24 mmol) is added dropwise to a solution of 3-amino-pyrazine-2-carboxylic acid methoxy-methylamide (0.5 g, 2.74 mmol) in THF (15 ml) at 0° C. The reaction is allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 1.5 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to 0° C. and 2 M HCl (20 ml) is added. The product is extracted into EtOAc (3×40 ml), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated in vacuo. Purification by flash chromatography (SiO2, 0-5% MeOH in DCM) yields (3-Amino-pyrazin-2-yl)-(4-chloro-phenyl)-methanone as a yellow solid.
