The reaction mixture of [2-(3-methoxybenzyl)cyclohexyl]methyl acetate (66 mg), DL-methionine (357 mg), and methanesulfonic acid (1.55 mL) was stirred at ambient temperature for 18 hours. To the reaction mixture was added diethylether and water. The reaction mixture was stirred. The organic layer was washed with water, brine, dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and evaporated in vacuo. The mixture was purified by silica gel column chromatography (n-hexane:EtOAc=5:1) to afford [2-(3-hydroxybenzyl)cyclohexyl]methyl acetate (42 mg) as colorless oil.
