In a similar manner as described for example B3, 1.4 g of an isomeric mixture of methyl 3-hydroxy-5-(5-methoxy-1H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-1-yl)thiophene-2-carboxylate and methyl 3-hydroxy-5-(5-methoxy-3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridin-3-yl)thiophene-2-carboxylate (example C9) and 0.76 g K2CO3 and 1.31 g 1-(bromomethyl)-2-(trifluoromethyl)benzene in 20 ml N,N-dimethylformamide yield compound B7a and compound B7b as crude material. These compounds were used for the next step (examples 22 and 23) without further purification.
