Procedure
To a 100 mL round-bottomed flask was added methyl 5-(methyloxy)-4-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-thiophenecarboxylate (203 mg, 0.805 mmol) in Tetrahydrofuran (TH F) (4 mL). 6N NaOH (4 mL, 24.0 mmol) was added slowly, the reaction mixture stirred overnight at 70° C. The mixture was neutralized by addition of 6N HCl and partitioned between CHCl3 and H2O. The layers were separated, the organic layer dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated affording the title compound (152 mg, 0.64 mmol, 79%), which was used in the next step without further purification: LC-MS (ES) m/z=239 (M+H)+.
