To a solution of N-(4-chloro-3-methyl-5-isoxazolyl)thieno[2,3-b]-pyridine-3-sulfonamide (0.76 g, 2.3 mmoles) (see Example 3), DIEA (0.6 ml, 35 mmoles) and EtOAc (100 ml) was added MEM-Cl (0.3 ml, 2.5 mmoles). The orange-brown solution was stirred 3 hours at ambient temperature, then washed with saturated NaHCO3 (200 ml). The organic layer was dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to collect 0.92 g (95%) of the title compound as a brown solid.
