Procedure
5.2 g of trifluoroacetic anhydride and 3.8 ml of trifluoroacetic acid are added to a solution of 8.6 g of 3-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-hydroxy-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)methyl]dihydrofuran-2-one, prepared in Example 6, in 100 ml of dichloromethane. The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 4 hours and then diluted with water and decanted. The organic phase is dried over magnesium sulfate and evaporated under vacuum to give 7.5 g of 3-[1-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-(4-methylthiophenyl)methylidene]dihydrofuran-2-one in the form of an oil, which is used as such in the next step.
