Procedure

To 4-methanesulfonylacetophenone (480 mg; 2.42 mmol) in 15 mL HOAC was added Br2 (2.42 mmol). The reaction was stirred overnight at r.t. The reaction mixture was carefully poured into NaHCO3 solution and extracted with EtOAC. The reaction yielded a light yellow solid which was used with no further purifiCation.
