2-(3-Benzyloxyphenyl)-4,5-dihydro-4(R)-phenyloxazole (3 g, 8.9 mmol) was dissolved in ethyl acetate (15 ml) and hydrogenolyzed in the presence of 10% palladium-on-charcoal (300 mg). Recrystallization from ethyl acetate/n-hexane gave 4,5-dihydro-2-(3-hydroxyphenyl)-4(R)-phenyloxazole (1.03 g, 48% ) as colorless needles.
