Procedure
A mixture of 2-chloromethyl-4-propyl-5-ethyl-1,2,5-thiadiazolidin-3-one 1,1-dioxide (0.5 g; 1.96 mmol) and sodium salt of 5-mercapto-1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole (0.39 g; 1.98 mmol) (Formula III: M+ =Na+ ; X=S; R4 = ##STR24## in 10 ml of DMF was allowed to react at 80° C for 11 hours and then cooled. The mixture was poured into ice/water containing saturated sodium bicarbonate solution, extracted with ether/ethyl acetate (1:1; 250 ml), and the organic layer was washed with water and brine, dried, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by silica gel chromatography (35% ethyl acetate in hexane) to afford 0.56 g (72%) of 2-(1-phenyl-1H-tetrazol-5-yl-thiomethyl)-4-propyl-5-ethyl-1,2,5-thiadiazolidin-3-one 1,1-dioxide (Formula I: ##STR25## as an oil.
