Procedure
The crude product of tert-butyl(4-methyl-1-oxopentan-2-yl)carbamate was dissolved in chloroform, 2-trifluoromethyl-5-aminopyridine (1.35 g) and sodium triacetoxyborohydride (3.52 g) were added thereto, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen carbonate solution was added to the mixture, followed by extraction with chloroform and drying over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The dissicant was filtered off, and then the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel cartridge, hexane/ethyl acetate) to afford tert-butyl (4-methyl-1-{[6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]amino}pentan-2-yl)carbamate (2.58 g).
