Procedure

Triethylamine (0.54 mL) and phenyl[6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]carbamate (600 mg) were added to a solution of L-valinol (200 mg) in chloroform, and the mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 1 hr. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by column chromatography (silica gel cartridge, hexane/ethyl acetate) to afford 1-[(2S)-1-hydroxy-3-methylbutan-2-yl]-3-[6-(trifluoromethyl)pyridin-3-yl]urea (640 mg).
