To a mixture of sodium hydride (2.89 g, 72.2 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (431 mL, 5310 mmol) was added 2,4-dibromo-5-(1H-imidazol-2-yl)thiazole (18.81 g, 60.88 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (60 mL, 700 mmol) at 0° C. The mixture was stirred for 30 min before [β-(Trimethylsilyl)ethoxy]methyl chloride (11.85 mL, 66.96 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (24 mL, 3.0E2 mmol) was added slowly at 0° C. The reaction was quenched with MeOH. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel to afford 2,4-dibromo-5-(1-((2-(trimethylsilyl)ethoxy)methyl)-1H-imidazol-2-yl)thiazole (13.6 g, 81.7%).
