Procedure

To a solution of ethyl (2R)-2-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)butanoate (1.22 g, 3.48 mmol, 1 eq) in THF-H2O (15 mL:15 mL) was added LiOH (0.258 g, 10.4 mmol, 3 eq). The mixture was allowed to stir at RT overnight. The mixture was acidified with 1M HCl and extracted with EtOAc. The organic layers were combined, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated to give (2R)-2-methyl-2-(methylsulfonyl)-4-(4-phenyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)butanoic acid (0.855 g, 76 yield). 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 8.20 (s, 1H), 7.86 (s, 1H), 7.53 (d, J=7.4 Hz, 2H), 7.32 (t, J=7.7 Hz, 2H), 7.15 (s, 1H), 4.35-4.23 (m, 1H), 4.20-4.08 (m, 1H), 3.11 (s, 3H), 2.71-2.57 (m, 1H), 2.38-2.25 (m, 1H), 1.50 (s, 3H). LC-MS M+H+323.1.
