A mixture of the product from Step A (6.2 g, 15.3 mmol), EDC (4.4 g, 23.0 mmol), and HOBt (3.1 g, 23.0 mmol) in anhydrous DCM (200 mL) was stirred for 30 min at RT, then β-alanine methyl ester (2.1 g, 15.3 mmol) and DIEA (8.0 mL, 45.9 mmol) were added. After being stirred for 12 hours at RT, the mixture was diluted with DCM then washed with 100 mL of 0.5 M HCl (aq) then 100 mL of saturated NaCl (aq). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, then concentrated. The major diastereomer of the title compound was obtained by trituration with hexane.
