Ethyl chrysene-2-carboxylate (20B, 10.1 g, 0.034 mol) in THF (500 mL) was treated with LiBH4 (Alfa, 4×0.5 g, 0.092 mol) under gentle reflux for 4 days. The reaction mixture was poured into ice and acidified carefully to pH 1 with 1M HCl. The precipitate was filtered and recrystallized from THF/hexane to afford 8.32 g (95%) of 2-chrysenemethanol mp 261°-262°, (C, H).
