To a suspension of trimethylphosphonium bromide (84 mg, 0.24 mmol) in THF (4 mL) was added sodium amide (12 mg, 0.31 mmol) under N2 atmosphere. The mixture was stirred for 30 minutes at room temperature, to which was added a solution of methyl 3-[4-[3-[3-isopropyl-6-(trifluoromethyl)benzothiophen-2-yl]propionyl]-2-methylphenyl]propionate [Example 12 (7)] (75 mg, 0.16 mmol) in THF (1 mL). The mixture was stirred for 22 hours at room temperature, treated with saturated aqueous ammonium chloride solution, and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/ethyl acetate=7/1), to give the titled compound as a pale yellow oil (27 mg, yield 36%).
