To a solution of hexahydro-pyridazine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1.5 g, 8.3 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (80 mL) is added 2-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine-4-carbonyl chloride, 16, (1.41 g, 7.5 mmol) and triethylamine (1.2 mL, 8.3 mmol). The mixture is stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The reaction solution is then diluted with1 N HCl (100 mL) and the organic phase is decanted. The aqueous phase is extracted with additional solvent and the organic layers are combined, dried, and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product is purified over silica(ethyl acetate/hexane 1:1) to afford 0.9 g (36% yield) of the desired product as a yellow solid.
