Procedure

4-Methylpiperazine (0.08 mL, 0.72 mmol) was added to a solution of 3-benzyloxy-1-ethyl-6,7-difluoro-1H-quinazoline-2,4-dione (Example C, 0.2 g, 0.6 mmol) and DBU (0.09 mL, 0.6 mmol) in 30 mL of acetonitrile. The solution was warmed to reflux for 100 hours, cooled, and concentrated to a solid. The solid was dissolved in chloroform washed with water, brine, and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solution was concentrated to give 0.21 g of a solid. The solid was purified by column chromatography (chloroform/methanol 99:1). The appropriate fractions were combined to give 0.14 g of the title compound as a solid, mp 134-136° C.
