Procedure
A solution of 3-benzyloxy-6,7-difluoro-1H-quinazoline-2,4-dione (Example B, 1.0 g, 3.2 mmol) in 20 mL of DMF was added to a suspension of sodium hydride (0.16 g, 3.9 mmol) in 20 mL of DMF and stirred for 30 minutes. 2-Fluoroethyl iodide (1.1 g, 6.4 mmol) was added, and the mixture was warmed to 50° C. for 18 hours. The reaction was quenched with 1 mL of water and concentrated to an oil. The residue was dissolved in chloroform, washed with water, brine and dried over magnesium sulfate. The solution was concentrated to give 0.73 g of the title compound as a solid, mp 145-147° C.
