To a solution of 2-bromophenol (2.6 g) in dimethylacetamide (20 ml) was added sodium hydride (640 mg) portionwise. A solution of 1-isopropylpyrrolidin-3-yl methanesulphonate [Example 134 (c)] in dimethylacetamide (20 ml) was added and the mixture was heated to 150° C. for 18 h. The mixture was allowed to cool and partitioned between water and dichloromethane. The organic phase was extracted with 2N aqueous hydrochloric acid which was then neutralised and extracted with dichloromethane. The extracts were dried (MgSO4), the solvent removed under vacuum and the product purified by silica chromatography using dichloromethane/aqueous ammonia/methanol mixtures to yield the title compound as a brown oil (496 mg).
