Procedure
N1 -(3-chloropropoxy)N4 -phenylpiperazine was prepared as described in Ind. J. Chem. 435 (1982) by adding dropwise 87 g (0.55 mole) of 1-bromo-3-chloropropane to a stirred solution of 81 g (0.5 mole) of N-phenylpiperazine in 100 ml acetone and 75 ml of 25% aqueous sodium hydroxide. The organic layer was separated, concentrated, slurried with ethyl acetate, washed, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated to an oil weighing 85 g and analyzed by thin layer chromatography and mass spectrometry to be the title compound.
