2-Trimethylsilylethane thiol (2.9 g, 21.9 mmol) was added dropwise to a suspension of NaH (1.8 g, 43.8 mmol) in dry DMF (60 mL) and stirred for 20 min. Then 1,3-difluoro-5-(hexafluoro-2-hydroxyprop-2-yl)benzene (Step 1 ) was added in dry DMF and the resulting reaction mixture was heated at 70° C. for 16 h. The reaction mixture was then added carefully to H2O and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried and evaporated to give a residue which was chromatographed on silica gel, eluting with 95:5 mixture of hexane:EtOAc to afford the title compound (3.2 g, 55%).
