A mixture of 0.51 g of 2,2-bis(fluoromethyl)-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid ethyl ester, 0.13 g of potassium hydroxide and 10 ml of ethyl alcohol was stirred at room temperature for 2 hours. To the reaction mixture was added ice water and hydrochloric acid and crystals separated out were filtered to obtain 0.43 g of 2,2-bis(fluoromethyl)-6-trifluoromethyl-2H-1-benzopyran-4-carboxylic acid.
