Procedure
A solution of 27-4 (1.2 g, 2.27 mmol) in EtOAc (15 mL) was cooled to -78° C. and saturated with HCl gas. This solution was warmed to 0° C. for 1.5 hours, degassed with argon and concentrated to give a colorless oil, which was chromatographed (10:0.5:0.5 EtOH/H2O/NH4OH) to give 27-5 as a white solid.
