A mixture of 2-bromophenyl boronic acid (600 mg, 3.0 mmol), methyl 5-amino-2-bromobenzoate (1.5 g, 6.5 mmol), potassium carbonate (2.07 g, 15 mmol) and tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium (0) (345 mg, 5 mol %) in 1:1 toluene/ethanol (20 ml) was stirred and heated at 90° C. under nitrogen for 12 hours. After cooling the mixture was diluted with diethyl ether and water and the organic phase dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to dryness. The residue was chromatographed with dichloromethane/iso-hexane (1:2->1:1) to yield the title compound as a pale yellow gum. (682 mg, 74%).
