Procedure
A mixture of A mixture of 2-(5-methoxypyridin-2-yl)-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)ethanone (0.200 g, 0.631 mmol), 1-bromo-2-butanone (0.190 g, 1.3 mmol), and NaHCO3 (0.212 g, 2.6 mmol) in acetone (5 mL) was heated under reflux for 20 h. The precipitate was removed by filtration. The filtrate was concentrated to give a residue, which was purified on a silica gel column eluting with CH2Cl2 to afford compound 6 (0.213 g, 92%).
