A solution of N-methyl-N-methyloxy-2-benzyloxycarbonylamino-5-hydroxybenzamide (3.0 g), isopropyl iodide (2.2 g) and potassium carbonate (2.0 g) in N,N-dimethylformamide (20 ml) was stirred for 15 hours at 70° C. To the reaction mixture was added water, which was subjected to extraction with ethyl acetate (80 ml). The organic layer was washed with water and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off, and the residue was purified by means of a silica gel column chromatography to give N-methyl-N-methyloxy-2-benzyloxycarbonylamino-5-isobutyloxybenzamide.as an orange oily product (1.0 g).
