Procedure
0.321 ml dimethyl sulfoxide was added to 5 ml solution of 0.198 ml oxazalyl chloride in dichloromethane at −78° C., and the mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 5 minutes. 2 ml solution of 290 mg 2-hydroxymethyl-3-methoxymethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-5,5,8,8-tetramethylnaphthalene in dichloromethane was added to the mixture at −78° C., and the mixture was further stirred at the same temperature for 40 minutes. After 0.946 ml triethylamine was added to the reaction mixture at −78° C., the temperature was raised to room temperature over 45 minutes. After water was added thereto, the reaction solution was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with brine and dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. Then, the residue obtained under reduced pressure was subjected to silica gel column chromatography to give 190 mg of the title compound as a yellow oil.
