In 50 ml of acetic acid ethyl ester was dissolved 3.0 g of 3,5-dichloro-4-(3,4-dichloro-α-cyanobenzyl)phenylhydrazine. To the solution was added equimol. of benzaldehyde, and the mixture was stirred for 3 hours at room temperature. The reaction mixture was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, which was then concentrated to afford the titled compound in a yield of 68%, m.p.75-90° C.
