Procedure
5.3 g of 3-(1,1-dimethylprop-2-yn-1-yloxy)-4-methoxybenzonitrile and 5.3 g of cesium fluoride are refluxed for 12 h in 30 ml of N,N-diethylaniline with nitrogen aeration. After cooling, the mixture is stirred into 300 ml of 4 N hydrochloric acid, the resulting emulsion is extracted three times with 5.0 ml of ethyl acetate, and the organic extracts are combined, dried over calcined potassium carbonate and evaporated in vacuo. The residue is chromatographed on silica gel using toluene. After evaporating the corresponding fractions, the title compound is obtained as an oil.
