A mixture of 1-[4-(4-hydroxyphenyl)butyl]-1,2,4-triazole (450 mg), 4-chloromethyl-2-(3,4-dihydro-2-naphthyl) oxazole (565 mg), potassium carbonate (290 mg) and N,N-dimethylformamide (10 ml) was stirred for 6 hours at 80° C. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with water, dried (MgSO4), and concentrated. The residue was subjected to a silica gel column chromatography. A crystalline product obtained from the fraction eluted with chloroform-methanol (50:1, v/v) was recrystallized from ethyl acetate-hexane to give 1-[4-[4-[2-(3,4-dihydro-2-naphthyl)-4-oxazolylmethoxy]phenyl]butyl]-1,2,4-triazole as colorless prisms, mp 96-97° C. The yield was 49%.
