Procedure
A solution of 10.3 g of 2,3-epoxy-5,8-dimethoxy-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalene, 8.8 g of o-tolylpiperazine, and 2 ml of absolute ethanol in 100 ml of xylene is refluxed for 4 days. The reaction mixture is cooled to room temperature, and the resulting crystalline solid filtered off and washed with ether to give 15.2 g of crude product. Recrystallization from ethanol/methanol gives 4 g of the title compound, melting point 217°-219° C.
