Procedure

915 mg of methyl 4-mercaptobenzoate were dissolved in 6 ml of dry dimethylformamide, and 237 mg of a 55% w/w suspension of sodium hydride in mineral oil were added, whilst ice-cooling, to the resulting solution, followed by stirring at room temperature for 30 minutes. A solution of 1.17 g of 1-[2-chloro-2-(2-methoxyphenyl)ethyl]imidazole dissolved in 6 ml of dry dimethylformamide was added to the resulting solution. At the end of this time, the resulting mixture was treated and purified similarly to the procedure described in Example 1, to give 1.26 g of the title compound as an oil.
