A solution of lithium hydroxide monohydrate (0.29 g) in water (5 ml) was added to a solution of methyl 3-methoxy-4-[1-methyl-5-[2-(pentylcarbamoyl)propyl]indol-3-ylmethyl]benzoate (0.65 g) in methanol (25 ml) and tetrahydrofuran (5 ml). The mixture was stirred under an atmosphere of nitrogen for 48 hr, and the solvents evaporated. The residue was taken up in water (5 ml), acidified with 1M hydrochloric acid (10 ml), and the precipitate which formed isolated by filtration to give the title compound (0.63 g, 94%) as a white powder; mp 85°-95°.
