A solution of TFA in DCM (20%, 60 mL) is added at 0° C. to (3S,5S,6R)-3-(5-chloro-pentyl)-2-oxo-5,6-diphenyl-morpholine-4-carboxylic acid tert-butyl ester (8.0 g, 17.5 mmol). The reaction mixture is slowly warmed up to room temperature and stirred for 4 hours. The reaction mixture is poured into a saturated K2CO3 solution, the two phases are separated and the water phase is extracted with DCM twice. The combined organic phases are dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and removal of the solvent under reduced pressure affords 6.0 g of (3S,5S,6R)-3-(5-Chloro-pentyl)-5,6-diphenyl-morpholin-2-one trifluoroacetate.
