Procedure
2-Methoxy-3,5-bis[(1E)-3-methoxyprop-1-en-1-yl]benzaldehyde (1 eq.) from the previous step and 10% w/w palladium over charcoal (0.1 eq.) were suspended in EtOAc (0.1 M). The vessel was then evacuated and purged with H2. Under a balloon-filled H2 atmosphere, the reaction suspension was stirred at RT for 4 h. The reaction suspension was then quenched with dichloromethane and filtered through a bed of celite. Concentration of the filtrate in vacuo to afford the crude product as a yellow oil. Further purification by way of flash chromatography (SiO2, Hex→EtOAc) afforded the title compound as a colorless oil.
